The Inspiration Behind the Story

Grief
Loss
Faith

I'm putting the finishing touches on a story of discovery. From the darkness of despair to the light of God's love, it is first and foremost a story for seekers, of being lost, being found, of leaving and returning.
If you or someone you know has experienced loss, if you are angry at God, if your prayers seem empty, if you are new to faith or have drifted far from the church of your childhood, you are not alone. I hope my story inspires you not to give up on the spiritual life, to keep searching until the way becomes clear.
My quest took me to monasteries in the Pacific Northwest, the Sonoran desert and a remote island in Alaska, the site of my son's death.
I knew almost from the beginning this journey had to be shared. Along the way, I met other grieving people who had lost their faith, and those with deep questions, whose voices echoed my own. Why did my loved one die? Where is God in this? How do I go on?
